I had the honor of photographing my neighbor and friend, Marybeth, and her sweet family after the arrival of her second baby and first son, James. Marybeth is also a talented maternity and family photographer. I took her maternity photos, too, which she did a fabulous job at highlighting on her blog. We had our newborn photography session at the Cottage Studio in Vickery Village, which is a great option for your newborn session if you live north of Atlanta. Mama decided that with a second baby and a toddler at home, she knew she wouldn’t want to worry about straightening the house up before a session – a great reason to book the studio! (Read here reasons why you may want to consider a studio for your newborn photography session).
first, a fun story about how we met.
Marybeth and I met last summer (September 2021) after we moved into the neighborhood while I was pregnant with my daughter. She and her husband were taking a walk on my street with a stroller. With me being pregnant and new to the neighborhood and suburbs (if you can really call Roswell the burbs these days!), I was determined to meet other mom friends close by. I nearly jumped out into the street to say hi and introduce myself. We get to chatting and I find out that the sweet newborn in the stroller had the same name as mine (baby girl in my belly at the time). They were also with their dog, whose name I learned was Tucker – well, we also have a dog named Tucker, who was probably barking at us from the house. To make things even crazier, I learned that she worked at a sister marketing agency to my company and was also a fellow photographer…talk about small world! It’s safe to say we were destined to be friends.
And that little newborn in the stroller? She’s now a proud big sis to her little brother. How sweet are the images below?
Now onto our studio newborn session.
As I said, we met on a chilly January morning at the Cottage Studio in Vickery Village, a natural light-filled space I frequently use for newborn photography sessions. Mama borrowed a dress from my client closet, and I always bring blankets and neutral swaddles for baby for an organic look. I helped to consult on what outfits and colors I thought would look best for the family, and they looked great as a result!
Sweet baby James was an absolute champ, and slept nearly the entire time. We started with baby’s solo shots until Marybeth’s grandparents arrived with little sis – this is a great tip I always suggest for studio sessions with toddlers – as we know, they have a short span where we’re likely to get the best photos! We want them as happy as possible, so I typically like shooting before their morning nap. It’s safe to say big sis is very fond her her little brother.
Take a peek at some of my favorite images from their session below. I’m so happy for this now family of four!
