Are you expecting and looking for a photographer to take Atlanta maternity photos? Or, maybe you’ve already booked a session with me (yay!). Either way, I’m sharing a few of my most frequently asked questions for maternity sessions.
Have more questions than you see below? Feel free to contact me here.
Q: When should I book you for my Atlanta maternity photos?
As with any type of session, the earlier the better! I typically recommend reaching out during your second trimester. That way, you’re (hopefully) feeling more like yourself, better able to tackle you to-do list and allows enough time to ensure a spot on my calendar. Fall and spring are a very busy time for me (and also when lots of family and newborn sessions are happening too), so keep that in mind!
Q: When is the best time to take maternity photos?
I typically schedule maternity sessions between 32-34 weeks. Sometimes I may shoot a maternity session earlier for higher-risk pregnancies or those that are at risk for delivering early. But usually, 32-34 weeks works. For first time mamas, I typically like to do maternity sessions a bit on the later side so we can let the belly get nice and round beforehand, while moms with multiple can sometimes do them earlier because they pop earlier. I will recommend timing to you, but ultimately it comes down to your preference and how you’re feeling!
Q: What should I wear for my maternity session?
Ever tried googling Atlanta Maternity Photos for outfit inspiration and then felt completely lost? I totally get it – shopping when you’re very pregnant can be daunting and exhausting! Not only is it hard to find good maternity clothing options, but you may also not love what you try on. That’s where my client closet comes in – a carefully curated collection of flattering dresses that are guaranteed to look great and photograph beautifully. You are beautiful, and you should feel that way in your photos too!
I source dresses from a variety of places. If you’d rather buy your own dress, you can find good options are stores like Baltic Born, Morning Lavender, Nothing Fits But, Lulu’s, and the Worth Collective.
Q: Studio or outdoor maternity session, which is better?
Neither one is better than the other, and each are beautiful in different ways! It really comes down to your artistic preference along with other factors like time of year, location, etc. Spring and Fall are the best times of year for outdoor maternity photos in Atlanta, so some mamas expecting in the summer or winter may opt for a studio maternity session to avoid the summer heat or the grayness and cold temps of winter. The studio also offers flexibility where nearly any time of day (morning through late afternoon) produces gorgeous images. If you have a sibling you want in your photos, but don’t want to push bedtime for a sunset session, a studio session may be another great option then, too. But its also hard to beat those sun-drenched bump photos. Either way, you’re guaranteed to love your images!
Q: What if I go into early labor before we have our session?
Life happens, and if it does, then we of course won’t be able to take maternity photos. While we do our very best to pick a date that works, sometimes these things happen. Don’t worry, we’ll make up for it with the newborn photos! I’ve got you.
Q: Can my dog join us for our session?
Of course! Furry friends are always allowed for outdoor maternity sessions. I have two dogs of my own and understand that they’re a special part of the family, too (especially when you know their lives are about to change one the baby comes!) Give me some treats to help capture their attention and we’ll be sure to get a few great shots.
Q: When will I get to see my images?
I do my very best to share a sneak peak photo with you within a few days of our maternity session. Depending on how busy I am, I try to share something within 48 hours. Your full gallery will be ready in about 2 weeks. I try to deliver your images to you as quickly as possible! I am contractually obligated to deliver them within 30 days of our session date (unless due to qualifying unforeseen circumstances), so it will not be any longer than that.
