I’ve had many baby milestone sessions this summer at the studio (a great way to beat the Georgia heat!), and they are just too cute not to share. Today I’m sharing a recent 6-month or “sitter” session at the studio and what to expect during these types of Atlanta baby photographer sessions.
This family booked a First Year Collection with me, meaning I have the honor of photographing baby’s newborn, 6-month and one year photos. What a privilege it is to document a baby’s first year of life!

I took this little boy’s newborn photos back in December, so it was time to do his 6-month milestone session. These are oftentimes called “sitter” sessions because sometimes we choose to wait until baby is sitting independently which can be after 6 months. So, right around 7 months he started to sit by himself, and we scheduled the session then! Of course, we shot at the beautiful Cottage Studio in Vickery Village. Mom wore a dress from my client closet – a beautiful white and blue floral dress from online boutique Worth Collective.
Also, fun fact – this mama and I went to the same high school and grew up in the same neighborhood. Both she and her husband stay super active. Dad actually had sunburn on his face from playing hours of tennis the day before our session (you know we gave him a hard time for that!)
What to expect during a 6-month Milestone Session:
- A variety of images: I typically start these sessions with baby-only images. We’ll do a mixture of baby sitting (if sitting independently), baby on their belly and more. Some of my very favorite images are of mama and baby, so we’ll do many of these shots, along with adorable images of baby and dad.
- Family shots, too: all of my baby milestone sessions also include family shots as well. Its super important to me to capture the full family during this special time!
- Location: these can either be at the studio or a beautiful park or garden, your choice. I definitely recommend the studio in the summer and winter to keep baby (and parents) happy. I also love the simplicity that the studio offers for these types of sessions.
Check out more images from this beautiful session below! I can’t wait to photograph their one year milestone session this December. As an Atlanta baby photographer, it is so special playing a small role in capturing their first year of life, and I love being able to watch them grow from behind my lens.
