Neutrals are always a safe bet – they tend look good on many different skin tones and with different hair colors. They also blend with most any surroundings, especially outdoor sessions. Greens from grass and trees, gravel pathways and blossoming flowers mixed with neutrals make for a super organic look that won’t go out of style.

I photograph a lot of families with some sort of blue in their outfit choice. And it’s no question as to why – blue can bring out the blues in eyes, and tends to look good on a variety of skin tones. The key is a light or soft blue, and not a bright or eccentric blue. Take a look at the palettes below which are still neutral in nature but do incorporate some color with blues.

If you’re looking to incorporate a little more color, or maybe you have a little girl who just LOVES to wear pink (I think mine will be a pink and purple girl herself!), then incorporating pink can still work really well with the nice green tones of the summer outdoors. Pink can compliment natural rosy cheeks and lips and works really well when mixed with other neutrals or colors like blue.
