So the last day of school came a little quicker than you imagined, and now you’re looking for things to do and ways to spend your summer. Here’s a list of great kids activities in Alpharetta that you can cross off your list this summer. And, please enjoy this sweet photo of my 19-month old in the grass 🙂
The Wacky World at Wills Park
Tired of your neighborhood playground or regular go to spot? If you haven’t been to Wills Park, its definitely worth a trip to tire out rowdy toddlers! The Whacky World Playground is a large wooden playground features castle-like structures that they’ll love playing in. Its a great activity for kids in Alpharetta. I remember going here as a kid and thinking it was THE coolest place around. Best part? It’s free and open to the public. Also, fun fact – the city of Alpharetta recently announced a rebuild of the park (to happen in Spring 2024) and are taking kid’s input into consideration for the design of it!
Alpharetta Farmers Market
The Farmers Market in downtown Alpharetta is open on Saturday 8:30am-12:30pm from April through November in the Alpharetta Town Green area. There are all sorts of local venders that show up – you can find anything from fresh fruits and vegetables to local honey and freshly baked pastries. As always, the vibe is welcoming with live music as you browse outdoors.
Alpharetta City Center Fountain
Whether you’re cruising through downtown Alpharetta on Saturday morning at the Farmers Market or just need another way to beat the heat, the kids will love to jump and splash around in the water fountain right next to the green in the city center. Grab a coffee or a bite to eat at Chairing and let your kids play – just be sure to bring a change of dry clothes for the car ride home!
Jeni’s Ice Creams at the Avalon
The best way to cool down on a hot summer day? Okay, maybe the second-best way to cool down. Either way, you can’t go wrong with ice cream, especially the delicious line of flavors that Jeni’s Ice Creams at the Avalon has to offer. My personal favorite is Brambleberry Crisp, which regularly appears in our freezer at home. It might be best to sneak a midday weekend treat in, as it can get busy around the dinner crowd with a line out the door (yes, its that good!).
Storytime in Crabapple Market
Looking for a summer kids activity in Alpharetta that doesn’t require being outdoors? Bring your little ones to the Poe & Company Bookstore at Crabapple Market for story time with Ms. Pam every Tuesday and Friday morning at 10am. Maybe you can even (hopefully) enjoy your hot coffee hands free! It makes for a great date with other moms, too. The space is super inviting with floor-to-ceiling windows, adorable painted walls and a wonderful selection of books.
Events on The Green at Crabapple
The big lawn at Crabapple Market, known as The Green, hosts a ton of different events throughout the year. Be sure to check out the events calendar for upcoming happenings this summer like interactive movie night, picnic night, concerts and more. Its a great place to gather with friends and family and is of course welcome to little ones!
All Fired Up Paint Studio
This pottery painting studio in downtown Alpharetta is a great place to take your creative little one(s), especially if you’re looking for a rainy day activity! When I was younger, there was a studio called Plaster Palace, and it was my all-time favorite place. I probably had a collection of more than 20 painted pottery pieces – everything from a pink dog to a polka dot pencil holder. I just loved picking out colors and seeing them come to life when we picked up our pieces. The pottery pieces also make great gifts to grand-parents or loved ones!
I hope you have a fun-filled summer planned with your family. Whether you’re taking ideas from this list of kids activities in Alpharetta, or traveling somewhere fun, remember that you can also make magic in the ordinary, everyday moments, too!
